For those Mothers out there! Help, have any answers?

on 9:29 PM
How long did it take for your child/children to sleep through most of the night?

How did you manage getting through the night?

Have any pointers or ways to make things easier for a fellow new mother?

Do you have any good books that you could recommend to me about newborns?

Have any advice about my sons gas problem? I have been trying that medicine for gas over the counter starts with an M...Cant remember what it is called, sleep deprived...Jennifer recommended it to me. It has been working pretty well, thank goodness!

Have any advice about what I should get ready for right now that will benefit me and aaron later?

When it comes to sleeping through the night, it can take up to a year. Gradually they get to where they sleep longer stretches. All I know to really say is that if you find yourself getting frustrated, be sure to just put him in his crib and leave the room. That is the best thing to do. Or, if you really need a break, see if a family member or friend would mind watching him for a night so you could get a nice full rest.

My friend has a little one just about the same age and she is having lots of luck from reading a book called "Baby Wise". It talks all about what to do to create a schedule with a baby, even if they are that young. Her daughter is doing really well with it and is sleeping pretty well at night. Maybe that would help? I don't know, I didn't try it myself.

Good luck with everything!

I learned about another thing that helps with gas. It's called Gripe Water. Elliott has been really gassy and in pain today. I just tried it about a half an hour ago and he went to sleep I'll have to let you know how it works. You can buy it from behind the pharmacy counter at walmart.

Elliott occasionally sleeps through the night. He's done that since he was born. He went through a long stretch where he would sleep 4 hours at a time and wake up just to nurse. Now he's been waking up after about 4 hrs, then 2 hrs. Although last wednesday he slept for 9 hours straight. So, as you can tell it's different for every baby. I've found it helps to have him close to my bed (we use a cradle) and get to him before he starts crying, then nurse him back to sleep. After he wakes up the first time I usually keep him in the bed with me. Up until he was about 6 weeks old the only way I could get him to sleep for more than 2 hrs at a time was to hold him. You just have to keep trying different things until you find what works for you.
