I want to write childrens books...

So I have always been writing stories, and when I was younger I told a lot of crazy stories. I get the magazine "american baby" and I saw a page full of information about writing childrens books. I really think I would be good at it. So what do you think?
I was hoping for some ideas from you guys. If I write a story I want it to be a series. So, for that to happen I need to think of characters, what kind of characters (animals or humans, etc), and everything else like that. I am thinking my books would be targeting children around the age they start to read books with short paragraphs and have a plot to the story. I love Berenstain Bears...it is an inspirational series for me. lol.
What do you think?
For those who understand what I am talking about, my "blessing" talks a lot about literature and art...and that I would be a sort of "teacher" for my family and those around me...and I just feel like I could do this.
